The Morning Sea

Independent Release, 2016

by Cathal Cart

Answering the timeless question, “What becomes of the brokenhearted?” Brooklyn based The Morning Sea, have taken the time to reveal their own responses. Vocalist Adam Cohen states, “Every song documents the end of a Morning Searelationship, and they all come from a personal place I believe people can connect to universally”.

Opening with the title track, a pensive ballad unfolds, elegantly considering how this seasick sailor may not be suited for theses travels. This is followed immediately by the up-beat and playful, “Don’t Be Moronic, Merriam,” which has some tight and punchy horn arrangerments, which are truly unexpected. Mixing brass with indie rock sensibilities.

“Alexandra” rocks effortlessly, and if you’re looking for greater meaning, the the momentum reveals the individual nature of each and every relationship coming undone. Some quietly, some in great big crashing heaps. “Lonely Heart in the Cosmos” has some nice tension provide by the drums rollicking beat.

Any long voyage will be fraught with a bevy of landscapes and experiences. The Morning Sea’s well documented break-ups swing wildly from quiet. weary exhaustion to overblown drama. This journey of misses and endings is as much about experience as it is bittersweet loss. And possibly more.
