For all ya’ll out there who like their music sweaty, loud and heavy, there’s this to be thankful for. Especially if you’re one of the many who never took to grunge, punk or alternative, because seriously, who wants to hear a bunch of men complaining all the damn time?
For a while there heavy metal became a series of bad self consuming cliches. When it was hair metal it just drifted away from the music and all into image. When it was nu metal they forgot to learn more than three chords or just the one beat, thinking a DJ would make all the difference.
Akron, Ohio’s L.A.Knights are at the front of this great new resurgence in metal which is as welcome as it is long overdue.
“Devil on My Heels” is radio ready and sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a long whiskey soaked night where you close down the strip club and the party continues back at your place. Which is great, because you will have gone through that stack of ones during “Dance,” so the return on investment will be appreciated.
“Psychoanalyze” is a sturdy blast of mid-tempo rock with tasteful double bass work and great squalling guitar leads. The song is in no hurry and takes it’s time relating the hell of suffering through a girlfriends pop psychology scrutiny.
Back to front this is a great EP of chest thumping, headbanging, drive too fast rock. Turn this up and don’t even glance in the rear view.
