Gold Under the Glow

From St. Petersburg, FL, comes The Hip Abduction, an upbeat, world beat sort of band, who sidestep easy catagorization. This is the bands third release and it is positively bursting with expectation.

Clik here to view. There’s indie, Afro-pop, and reggae in this genre-defying audio gumbo, as well as some spices not easily identified. Guitars and synths take turns driving these numbers. And every last number is as sunny as the promise of a Florida daybreak.
Opening with “Before We Lose Our Mind”, the song sparkles with a hopeful sense of purpose. “All I Need” is optimistic and bright-eyed. And there’s a sax solo at the center of “Stand Up For Love” which toys playfully, before coming to life, and bringing the band back with force.
“Ka’iwi” features the sort great guitar wah-wah work out that would have made Clapton positively lose his mind with jealousy in ’68. the song also manages to pull off the neat trick of writing a song that sounds and feels like it could have come from the Reggaes golden age of the late 70’s.
From front to back Gold Under the Glow the band declares proudly their keenly hopeful vision. Not another ganja obsessed band, focused on smoking their troubles away, The Hip Abduction are a substantial musical force to be reckoned with.
